On the road again – from 19 April 2018

April 2018 – we left home and travelled 1.5 hours to Gin Gin showgrounds for 2 nights. We had a couple of light showers on Thursday and a short thunderstorm on Friday evening. The days are still very warm but the nights pleasantly cool. We walked around Gin Gin on Friday and had the first meat pie of the trip – very nice too.

April 2018 – we travelled to Gladstone showgrounds for 2 nights. Another warm day. After lunch we went out to find some geocaches in the parkland areas around the marina. This trip is going to be a relaxed affair with short days of travel and at least 2 nights at each camp, mostly in places we have not visited before.

April 2018 – we left Gladstone intending to go to Biloela, but detoured to Ubobo for the night. We were the only campers there and it was a very quiet night. During the afternoon we drove out to look at Blackman Waterhole- a beautiful spot with crystal clear water in the bush.

April 2018 – we drove to Biloela and stayed at the Queensland Heritage Park, still very warm during the day but cooling off a lot at night. We even had to put the summer doona on the bed. We went out to look at Mt Scoria, and to the Callide Dam & power station. Even with the huge power station and mine infrastructure, it is still a beautiful area. This whole area (Banana Shire) deserves a 2 or 3 week trip sometime in the future to go and see it all.

April 2018 – to Goovigen to stay at their community recreation area campsite. We arrived in time to join in the ANZAC Day march and attend the memorial service afterwards. In the evening we went to the pub for dinner, the Wednesday night special of sausage pasta bake and vegies! Goovigen is very quiet with no shops at all, only the pub operating and we were the only tourists there. We had some birds for company in a nearby bush.

April 2018 – to Neville Hewitt Weir at Baralaba, a very scenic spot and very quiet. There were about 10 other vans camped but all spread out amongst the trees. The weather was still very hot during the day but pleasantly cool at night and very dry. We decided to stay for 3 nights and wandered up to the pub for Sunday lunch.

April 2018 – to Blackwater for the night in the very dusty showgrounds. We bought fuel and groceries and tomorrow will head to Bundoora Dam which we hope will be a much nicer place to stay.
